This group was created to bring together ophthalmologists who share an interest in inpatient and emergency room based consultation.
Newly established in 2020, we represent a collaboration of providers who look at clinical issues specifically relevant for hospital based patient care and resident teaching.
Great question! An ophthalmic hospitalist is a provider who has focused expertise for inpatient and emergency room consults.
Ophthalmology has often been traditionally viewed as an outpatient field, however there are a growing number of subspecialty providers known as ophthalmic hospitalists who specialize their practice to hospital based patients.
We evaluate patients who are medically complex or critically ill and work with other hospital services to provide collaborative multi-disciplinary care. Many of us also work closely with training residents and find tremendous educational value in consult based teaching which includes both medical and surgical management.
We are excited to be part of this emerging field of ophthalmology and appreciate the collective expertise of all our group members. We welcome all those interested in joining!
